LumeNet is a two-day research methods workshop for PhD students of lighting, colour, daylight and related subjects. LumeNet 2018 will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, 16/17 August 2018 to coincide tithe the CIE Expert Tutorial and Workshop on Research Methods for Human Factors In Lighting 13/14 August 2018.

LumeNet is a forum for discussing how we arrive at those conclusions, such as the intended experimental procedure, how this might be improved, and to identify important issues worthy of study. Ph.D. students are therefore invited to present their research plans in order to gain critical feedback – the schedule will allow time for each students’ work to be discussed in depth by other students and by an invited panel of senior researchers. These researchers have extensive experience of experimental work and are editors of some of the key journals for lighting research. Their feedback will help to improve your research and publication of that research. Students are asked to submit an abstract for the abstracts booklet, to give 3-minute project overview to the whole group, and in small groups to give a 10 minute presentation of their project: the reasons why the work is needed, the objectives, and the proposed methods.

The LumeNet workshop is free to attend due to sponsorship to make it free to attend. To register for LumeNet students should send an email to Lumenet2018@Sheffield.ac.uk with the subject “Registration [your name]” and in the email give their:

  • name
  • topic
  • status (1st year, 2nd year ……)
  • university and department
  • supervisor(s)

The workshop is limited to 40 students to make sure that there is sufficient time to focus on each students’ work, so would advise them to sign up soon. Nearer the event we will ask for a two-page abstract (which will be printed and shared at the meeting) and will send information about accommodation and travel.
