Now its eighth edition, CIBSE Guide A: Environmental Design continues to exist as the authoritative reference source for designers and installers of building services, particularly low energy and environmentally sustainable buildings.

The publication focuses on the individual aspect of environmental design such as criteria for design (e.g. comfort criteria, weather data) as well as methods of calculation like fabric performance, heating and ventilation system sizing, methods for thermal comfort evaluation, and energy demand.

It contains the latest published research and best design practice enabling environmental design engineers and installation engineers to be at the forefront of their profession. The text has been updated to include:

  • A new chapter on “Quality in Environmental Design” covering a holistic approach to the design and a system to assure the quality of the design calculations and decisions,
  • Acknowledgement of current UK legislation, specifically the 2013 Building Regulations Approved Documents L and F,
  • Recommendations for the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive.

The publication is once again supported by a large number of data files which can be accessed online via the Knowledge Portal.
