The deadline to submit papers for the 6th VELUX Daylight Symposium is on Friday 28 Feberuary.
The theme of the symposium will be “Daylight as a driver of change” and will focus specifically on the challenges faced by today’s 24/7 society; how we live our lives with more than 90% of our daily routines happening indoors, and how it affects our synchronization to nature. How can we ensure that our modern lifestyle is in balance with nature’s daily and seasonal cycles? How can spaces and occupants adapt to changing daily and seasonal conditions? How can architecture and daylight interact to stimulate our senses? How can we rethink our homes, workplaces and public spaces into healthier and more sustainable living environments?
Papers are called for within the following themes:
- The 24/7 society; how modern living affects our exposure to daylight and darkness?
- Architecture for senses; how can we design buildings that stimulate our senses, follow our human needs and allow us to live in balance with nature?
- Living environments; how can daylight drive changes in the way homes are built and renovated; supporting recreational and social activities, recuperation, health and wellbeing?
- Working environments; how can daylight drive changes in the way offices and public buildings are built or renovated; supporting productivity, performance, satisfaction, health and wellbeing?
- Learning environments; how can daylight drive changes in the way schools are built or renovated; supporting learning capabilities, social interaction, health and wellbeing?
- How can we use daylight as a driving force to rethink the way we design buildings in the urban environments?
- What are the potential socio economic aspects of improving daylight conditions in schools, healthcare and/or offices?
- Building legislation; where are the opportunities, challenges and responsibilities associated with daylight in building legislation?
Abstracts (about 500 words) are to be submitted before 28 February 2015 via the call for papers form. All abstract will be peer reviewed by a scientific committee.
