Daylight requirements are changing. Old guidance based around the daylight factor is being superseded by new climate based metrics such as daylight autonomy (DA) and useful daylight illuminance (UDI). The speakers are Cosmin Ticleanu and Paul Littlefair of BRE, and they will present the findings of a project sponsored by CIBSE SLL and the BRE Trust to examine new metrics for daylight design.  The Daylight Group event will take place at The British Academy, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AH on 25th November 2015, 13:30 PM to 16:45 PM.

The presentation will cover:

  • Advantages of the new metrics and issues with their use.
  • How the exact definitions of the metrics, and the way they are calculated, can have a big impact on how easy recommendations are to achieve.
  • How the new metrics might be included in the new European Standard on daylighting, which may replace BS8206 Part 2.
  • Problem areas and approximations in the Lighting Energy Numeric Indicator (LENI) calculation used in the Building Regulations Part L. The relevant standard (EN15193) has recently been revised.
